DANCE MINISTRY
Psalms 150 :4 states, “Praise Him with tambourine and dance”; And due to the belief in that scripture, a dance ministry was founded at Grace Ministry over 20 years ago initially beginning with three different age groups of female dancers; Cherubs (ages 5-10), Diamonds (ages 11-17) and the adult women (ages 18 and up). With the belief in ministering and not “performing”, the ministry not only ministered through dance regularly at Grace Memorial Baptist Church but used their gifts to also minister in the community and at many different churches, including various celebratory programs and services. The members of the ministry were committed and zealous about the ministry and eagerly anticipated their monthly engagement to minister to the church body and their annual dance concerts. Eventually, the young men (ages 6 through 17) of Grace Memorial expressed their interest in also ministering through dance and after being allowed that opportunity, proved that they were willing to display their commitment to God during times when it was not popular for males to dance in the church. The young men decided on the name “Hands in Motion” and were not shy in using their gifts to minister God’s word through dance. Over the years, the original members of the dance ministry grew into productive young adult Christians, all establishing their adult lives in different parts of the country. This did not stop the dance ministry from coming together for a reunion dance for the church’s 30th anniversary service, that was held at the Reef restaurant in Long Beach, CA. The dance ministry remains open to all who have a heart bent towards God and who have a desire to use their gifts to ministry through dance.

The Church Mother should have good organizational skills, using those skills to develop a strong, spirit-filled, progressive women’s department and help build the ministry of the local church. The Church Mothers board can only operate effectively with the authority given by the pastor. The Church Mothers should be women who are spirit-filled, sound minded, full of wisdom, respected and appreciated in their homes, churches, and communities; one who the pastor can trust to give guidance to the women’s ministry.
